This pride and all year long, I want to give a shout out to us fat queer people

To fat queer people who never get to see representation of themselves because the vast majority of queer representation is of thin people

To fat queer people who have to put ten times the effort into their gender expression just to be viewed as 10% of their gender

To fat queer people who get misgendered no matter how they look

To fat queer people who can never present how they want to anyway because affirming clothes in their size are either nonexistent, triple the price, or terrible quality

To fat asexuals who are believed even less about their identity because they’re told it’s just a matter of “no one wanting to have sex with them”

To fat aromantics who aren’t respected because their aromanticism is viewed as “No one loved you anyway”

To fat gay people who have their identities denied because “You just couldn’t find a man/woman who wanted you”

To fat nonbinary people whose bodies are viewed in the queer community as inherently gendered and incapable of being androgynous

To fat binary trans people who are always viewed as whatever gender hurts them most

To fat trans people who are denied surgeries due to medical fatphobia, have difficulty finding products like binders in their size, are told that thinness is a must to “pass” as their gender, and have their bodies weaponized by terfs

To fat queer people who are viewed as “cringe” for the crime of existing as fat and queer

To fat queer people who can’t even buy pride merchandise without having to worry if their size will be offered and then have to pay more than thin queer people just to show their queer pride

To fat queer people who developed eating disorders due to the fatphobia peddled by their own communities

To fat queer people whose identities are partially influenced or entirely caused by the fatphobia they have experienced for years and decades

To fat queer people who are forced by fellow queer people into sexual positions they’re uncomfortable with, such as topping, just because they’re bigger and have stereotypes forced onto their body

To fat queer people who joined a relationship and experienced sexual trauma because their partner only wanted to humiliate a fat person and ignore your boundaries

To fat queer people who only see themselves in queer porn as a tool for the humiliation of thin queer people who dared to have sex with a fat person or never see your body in sexual content at all

To fat femmes who are viewed as butch no matter what they do because their fatness is gendered against their will

To fat butches who don’t feel able to experiment with femininity if they want to

To fat queer people who have an even harder time finding a partner in the queer community because of rampant fatphobia

To fat queer people who have had to hear “No fats, no femmes”

To fat queer people who are constantly told they’re not “truly oppressed” because they “don’t have it as bad as [X queer identity]”

To fat intersex people who have to deal with strangers believing they’re an expert on your body because fat people can’t have knowledge about how their own bodies work

To fat queer people who can’t even trust that other queer people fighting for equality won’t use fat bodies as symbolism for immoral behaviors and beliefs

To fat queer people who can’t rely on doctors who accept queer identities to not still discriminate against them because of medical fatphobia

To fat queer people who don’t believe they can be loved without being fetishized

To fat queer people whose queer identities are viewed even more as a fetish because their bodies are viewed as a fetish

To fat queer people who took way longer to realize they’re queer because they never saw any queer representation that included them

And to so, so, so many other fat people with experiences of fatphobia in the queer community

You all belong. You are the identities you say you are. You do not make the queer community “look bad” just because fatphobes want to use our bodies as weapons for fatphobia and queerphobia. You deserve to be respected and have representation. You deserve to not be treated as an afterthought.

We are queer, and our experiences matter.

Crow is obviously struggling with his grief but it’s sort of messed up, given everything he knows, to turn to YW and invite them on a vengeance crusade. Through Uldren he has first hand knowledge of just how far off the deep end they’re capable of going. How far does he want them to go? How much pain does he want them to cause? If he asks for scorched earth he’d probably get it. Given Amanda’s death happened during a mission they were involved in it’s likely another loss they feel somewhat personally responsible for.

I know there’s a lot of times different characters ask for YW to basically unleash rage upon their enemies but personally to me (just my headcanon basically) I always felt that, post Forsaken, it was meeting Crow and hearing about what he’d been through since he’d risen that started to wake YW up. And with his perspectives on our conflicts and enemies in the following seasons he reminded YW of the type of Guardian they could be. The type of Guardian they were when they showed Misraaks mercy all those years ago on Titan.

So it being him who is asking this of them just left me feeling hollow.

image

I can not tell you how concerned I was when I saw this line. And I’ve been chewing on it for a while. I’ve mentioned this before but I truly do feel like the guardian is like an obedient dog.

They’re fiercely loyal- but they never have any thoughts on anything. They never second guess others, never doubt their friends instructions. They never offer alternatives, and they never say no. This feeling has only grown as our Ghost speaks less and less.

And I don’t believe that was the writers intention, it’s the result of having a silent protagonist that’s rarely ever focus on. They just need us to go from point A to point B.

A majority of the time it’s “a job” or just “a mission” other times it’s another character’s personal motives.

That’s why I think them disobeying Zavala’s orders, going rouge and killing Uldren Sov, carries so much weight. It’s something the YW did specifically on their own.

The events of Forsaken is a definite sore spot. For multiple reasons. Its the main reason why a lot of people wanted Cayde as the guardian’s nightmare. It’s why the handcanon bounty had the nightmare of Uldren Sov mocking us. It’s why our Ghost became so worried for us.

image

I agree… To have the Young wolf go on a vengeance mission is… concerning… Especially if we were asked to from Crow.

while i generally agree with all of this i think it’s important to note that even though it’s very hard to see with the YW as a silent protagonist, we’ve been doing significant growing since forsaken. I don’t think it’s been handled well or discussed enough in plot/lore, but shadowkeep was in part about us and others recognizing that the threat isn’t actually about our old enemies being back, but recognizing them as fears built on our painful memories, which conveniently sets us up for interacting with crow. beyond light is also no coincidence about learning to use stasis, which is very much about wrestling with the temptation to use power for ultimate control, to halt the very atoms of everything around us, to never be hurt again. it’s what eramis, kridis, and the others failed at. Conversely, with strand we learn to accept and flow with not just the power, but also events. to accept our losses and failings and move on, and keep adapting to the situation around us without trying to force outcomes that are beyond us.

now again, i don’t think these developments are adequately discussed. lore entries never really go into our experience with the darkness, we can only infer how it works from others. and the npc dialogue from elsie and osiris. BUT i would argue that we are not the singleminded, vengeful, scorched earth policy Young Wolf we were in Forsaken. And I think earlier lore entries with Crow, and his experience seeing us begin to forge alliances with Caiatl House light, and even Spider, show that he probably understands this about us as well.

This season was super disappointing for me, but ultimately i think it was just and mischaracterized a lot of the people involved rather than being a dark portent of our future plot with crow or anything.

Yes you make a good point. The point of Crow’s development is to make him a better character who redeems himself. Often it’s simply just mishandled writing with good intentions.

Turning the idea “Vengeance bad” we got from Forsaken to “vengeance good” was a major trip up for me. ^^;

The characters definitely don’t see the Young Wolf as mindless or as a weapon, (The Young Wolf’s enemies however might think otherwise…) they see them as a good and trusted friend who they can lean on. However the way the writers handle their actions involving the Guardian, and the Guardians responses to them is what largely gives off that impression.

Storytelling is limited and structured around IRL technicalities with Destiny, and it sadly interferes clarifying these kinds of things.

Makes me wonder what the solution would be during these kinds of situations to reinforce what we’ve learned so far. Im not sure. 🤔 The characters noting an off screen reactions perhaps? Like “Don’t look at me like that” kind of thing. Maybe more lore tabs about the Young wolf or Ghost? (Lol When the transcript said “You are surprised by Crow’s confidence” I was like “damn right I’m surprised”)
